OM INTERNATIONAL LEDRO MATCH RACE ROCCO ATTILI AND ERIC MONNIN ARE JUST ONE POINT FAR AWAY FROM THE FINAL

Lake Ledro, 24 June 2023 – It was a great day on the Ledro Lake where the OM International Ledro Match Race is underway, an event organized by the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro valid as sixth stage of the World Match Racing Tour. Actually, the weather conditions allowed Fabio Barrasso, PRO of the event, to complete the Round Robin and start the semifinals.

Today matches have reshuffled the rankings that emerged at the end of the first day, promoting to the next round Rocco Attili (8-2, 80%), winner of the qualifying round, Eric Monnin (8-2, 80%), Vladimir Lipavsky ( 8-2, 80%) and Jeffrey Petersen (6-4, 60%).

For Attili, the only Italian in the race, today was one that will never be forgotten, given the excellent series of ten consecutive victories: after the eight victories lined up in the Round Robin, the Italian talent won two more races in the semifinal sailed against Jeffrey Petersen. The duel expected to be at the best of five, was suspended due to lack of wind on the situation of double advantage for the Italian team.

In the other semifinal, also suspended after the first two matches have been played, the situation appears equally clear: Eric Monnin, 2022 European Champion and number one seeded, is in fact ahead two to zero compared to Vladimir Lipavsky.

Scrolling through the provisional standings the fifth place is for Robbie McCutcheon (6-4, 60%) who, after a good start missed the qualification due to the defeat suffered in the match with Jeffrey Petersen. Sixth is Timothee Rossi (5- 5, 50%), followed by Mati Sepp (5-5, 50%), Ruairi Finnegan (3-7, 30%), Damian Michelier (3-7, 30%), Martin Allix (1-9, 10%) and Ted Blowers (1-9, 10%). The latter positions are to be considered provisional and will be defined tomorrow with the King of the Castle, which will be followed by the last matches valid for the semifinals and the finals.

In order not to leave anything to chance, the Race Committee has set the start of the final day for 9 am.

Once the OM International Ledro Match Race at the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro has concluded, there will be no time to rest, given that the EUROSAF Match Racing Women Open European Championship will already begin on June 27th, destined to end on the afternoon of the 30th.

OM INTERNATIONAL LEDRO MATCH RACE A GREAT START FOR JEFFREY PETERSEN, VLADIMIR LIPAVSKY E ROBBIE MCCUTCHEON

Ledro Lake – The instability of the weather slowed down the Round Robin’s flights of the OM International Ledro Match Race, an event valid as sixth stage of the World Match Racing Tour which began today on the Ledro Lake and organized by Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro with the support of World Sailing and of the Italian Sailing Federation.
The long hours spent between the buoys, necessary to wait the settling of the wind, were reflected in the dispute of just four flights that promoted the American Jeffrey Petersen (3-0, 100%) and the Israeli Vladimir Lipavsky (3-0, 100%) to the top of the rankings. New Zealander Robbie McCutcheon also did well (3-1, 75%), and he was the only one to compete in four regattas, three of which he won.
Behind Petersen, Lipavsky and McCutcheon a small furrow has already been created given that none of the pursuers has collected two points and all of them have at least one defeat. At present, completing the top six are Ruairi Finnegan (1-1, 50%), the European Champion Eric Monnin (1-1, 50%), surprisingly beaten by the Irishman Finnegan, and Mati Sepp (1-1, 50% ).
A situation that is still too “unripe” and that will begin to take shape tomorrow, when, starting at 9AM, the bows will return to cross with the aim of completing the Round Robin.
Once the OM International Ledro Match Race has concluded at the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro there will be no time to rest, given that the EUROSAF Match Racing Women Open European Championship will already begin on June 27th, destined to end on the afternoon of the 30th.
